MotoContrario organizes, within the Festival Contrasti 2023, an international composition masterclass held by Marco Momi, acclaimed as one of the most significant authors in the contemporary musical creation panorama.
The masterclass, open to composers of all ages and nationalities, is scheduled along four days and includes:
- two individual composition classes for each effective participant,
- a public lecture held by Marco Momi,
- five concerts held by L’arsenale, Suono Giallo, mdi ensemble and Ensemble MotoContrario,
- a reading session, by MotoContrario Ensemble,
- a final concert with the students works
REGISTRATION RULES
EFFECTIVE STUDENTS (10 places): € 350*
The attendance fee includes 2 individual composition lessons with Marco Momi each lasting 60 minutes and all the activities included on the masterclass schedule. Instructions for registration as an effective student can be found at the bottom of the page.
*For attendance, each effective student is asked to join Motocontrario as associate member (subscription period: 1 year). We remind that Motocontrario is a regularly registered, apolitical, non-denominational and non-profit cultural association, whose sole purpose is the study and divulgation of contemporary music. The membership quote is included in the attendance fee for the masterclass.
AUDITORS: 70 €
Auditors are guaranteed access to all the events of the masterclass (including individual lessons for effective students) they wish to attend.
Classes and all the events will take place in the main building of the Liceo “A. Rosmini” di Trento, via Bartolomeo Malfatti, 6 38122 – Trento – Italia.

- link to at least two (2) scores in pdf format for different instrumentation (solo instrument, small chamber group, bigger ensemble) with related MP3 recording (if available). NB: all the online material (both scores and recordings) MUST be downloadable; materials available only as online documents won’t be accepted!

The selection, personally supervised by the guest teacher, will take place by 15 MAY 2023.

MARCO MOMI
Marco Momi (*1978) studied piano, orchestral conducting and composition in Perugia, Strasbourg, The Hague, Rome, Darmstadt and Paris; from 2007 to 2010 he studied and worked at IRCAM in Paris.
His music has been performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Nikel, Klangforum Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, ASKO, Quartetto Prometeo, Trio Accanto, mdi, Matthias Pintscher, Bas Wiegers, Nicolas Hodges, Mariangela Vacatello, Matteo Cesari, Marino Formenti, Clement Power among others, in festivals such as Philarmonie Paris, Musica Strasbourg, ManiFeste Paris, Présences – Radio France, Warsaw Autumn, Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Milano Musica, Culturscapes Basel, Music Today Seoul, Time of Music Vitasaari, Wien Modern, Lulea Festival, Gaida Vilnius, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Wiener Konzerthaus, Venice Biennale, Bang on a Can New York, IRCAM, Tzlill Meudcan Tel Aviv and ZKM Karlsruhe.
His works have been awarded in several international competitions like Gaudeamus Music Prize, Seoul International Competition, Impuls – Klangforum Wien. In 2008 he received the Kranichsteiner Music Prize from the city of Darmstadt. Marco has been composer in residence at the Akademie der Künste Berlin and at the Fondazione Banna Spinola in Turin.
His music is published by Ricordi. Two portrait CDs (“Almost Pure” and “Almost Quiver”) have been released by Stradivarius and the CD “Almost Nowhere” has been released by KAIROS.
He teaches Composition in Italian Conservatoires since 2008 and he gives lectures mainly in Europe.
